Vivian Smith (she/her) is an emerging visual artist who brings to light the under explored stories of women. Central to her approach is a belief that art should be accessible and inclusive, and she seeks to share her experiences with a wider audience. Vivian is committed to creating engaged and collaborative art that challenges traditional boundaries and she's not afraid to tackle tough issues such as gender equity and social justice through her practice. She does this by creating works from many different materials including ceramics, fibre, paint, plexiglass, plaster, and anything else she can get her hands on.

My three weeks at the Similkameen Artist Residency was very valuable for strengthening my art practice and was a great way to start my new body of work. The peaceful setting, with minimal distractions, allowed me to establish a consistent daily routine that I've maintained since leaving. The environment is serene, nestled in an environmentally unique area, and the accommodations were comfortable and well-equipped. Being surrounded by passionate, dedicated artists was incredibly inspiring. I enjoyed seeing and hearing about everyone's work and engaging in discussions about our practices. The critiques and impromptu conversations helped me gain fresh perspectives on the approach to my new body of work, which I've since incorporated into my practice.
