SCULPTURE CORRAL
Commissioned Sculpture Corral Map by Kaiya Inouye of SidexSide Studio
The “Sculpture Corral” is an artist-led project in a former horse corral and ungroomed portion of the property upon which SAR resides. SAR has realized the desire by artists in residence to place temporary outdoor artworks within this space. With the goal of encouraging creativity from its residents, SAR allows this practice to take place with the following considerations in respect to the land.
SAR is located on the traditional territories of the Syilx First Nation, home to the Lower Similkameen Indian Band. The residency rests upon a vast cultural and biodiverse landscape, with which we encourage visiting artists to develop a respectful relationship. We ask that Artists who place Artworks in the Sculpture Corral:
1. Pack out what they pack in;
2. Give space to wild animals;
3. Do not dig into or remove anything from the ground; and
4. Ensure that all materials used for the Artwork are biodegradable and/or at least be used/sealed in such a manner that they will not leach into the soil or otherwise negatively affect the surrounding ecosystem.
