Leah Tan Passmore (born 1986) is a Filipino-Canadian emerging artist based in Vancouver and Squamish, Canada. She earned a BA in Visual Art (2011) from the University of British Columbia where she focused on photography, painting, printmaking and art history. She is currently in the Photography Certificate continuing studies program at Emily Carr University of Art and Design while working on a portfolio to pursue graduate studies in fine art (MFA). She is interested in serial-based work and how the camera is used as a tool to collect and accumulate various subjects and objects, whether human-made or found in nature. In addition to photography, she is also interested in painting, sculpture and public art. Her work is rooted in the investigation of human relationships (social, personal, familial, ethical and environmental) and is informed by interests in bridging the sacred and secular.

The Similkameen Artist Residency was an incredible opportunity that gave me the dedicated time and space to work as an artist. The log house with its personal and communal living spaces, as well as studios, is beautiful and spacious. I fell in love with the small village of Keremeos with its friendly people and stunning scenery of mountains, ponderosa pines, grasslands, and the long, winding Similkameen River. On top of all of this, I got to work alongside talented artists and writers who became friends who I looked forward to sharing a meal with during potluck dinners! I am beyond thankful for my time here and I look forward to returning this Fall to continue to make more art.
