Alysha Rocca
February 2025
Alysha Rocca is an emerging artist with a BFA from OCAD University. Working with the theme of sustainability has challenged the way she approaches creation. In her artistic practice, she weaves together the threads of feminism and environmental consciousness, crafting a narrative of resilience and empowerment through recycled materials. Although she does work with many mediums including oil and acrylic paint, she is drawn to the tactile quality of fabrics and fibres. Each piece Alysha creates is not only a celebration of creativity but also a statement of solidarity with the feminist movement and a commitment to sustainability.
The Similkameen Artist Residency is a special place of creation and connection. Having access to an onsite studio space promoted uninterrupted time to focus on my creative practice and dive deeply into my art with vulnerability. The other artists in the cabin provided a lively inspiring environment and Alexandra was a master of fostering connections between the artists and the community. The people, artists, community, and space exceeded all my expectations and I hope to return soon!
